American Roots/Blues Artist Marty Grebb Signs With Luna Chica Records
– (NASHVILLE) – Luna Chica Records International is excited to announce the signing of American Roots/Blues artist Marty Grebb to the indie label, along with the release of his new self-produced album, High Steppin’.
Multi-instrumentalist Marty Grebb is a seasoned performer, musician and songwriter whose professional career started at age 15 when he formed a band with his high school friend, Peter Cetera. The band was called The Exceptions, and by age 16 he had signed his first record deal with Vee-Jay Records. By 1966 he was playing with The Buckinghams, who had six Top Ten hits and three Top Twenty albums for Columbia Records. Grebb’s musical journey continued through several other bands, such as Lovecraft, The Fabulous Rhinestones and Chicago. His incredible musicianship has contributed to some of the biggest names in music, such as: Eric Clapton, Leon Russell, Bonnie Raitt, Stevie Nicks, Greg Allman, Bonnie Bramlett, Willie Nelson, Etta James, Rick Danko and Rosanne Cash.
“I had the pleasure of playing with Marty in my band in the old days. I hired him to play sax, but he ended up playing sax, Hammond, and guitar. He is astonishing on all those instruments,” said Leon Russell. “Also, he has the soul of an angel in his singing voice. This (High Steppin’) is his second solo album and I’m quite sure you will love it as much as I do. This is a premiere event for your listening pleasure. Enjoy yourself!”
Grebb’s additional credits include performing on Eric Clapton’s 2007 album, Road To Escondido, and working on arrangements with J.J. Cale who co-produced the album. As a songwriter, Grebb has written with Levon Helm, Daniel Moore, Richard Manuel, among many others. Grebb has also had guest appearances on some of his previous recordings from Jim Keltner, Steve Cropper, Bonnie Raitt, and Taj Mahal. Throughout his career, Grebb has appeared on several national and international TV shows, including: The Ed Sullivan Show, The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour, The Tonight Show, The Jerry Lewis Show, Saturday Night Live, and The Merv Griffin Show.
“Representing an artist of the caliber of Marty Grebb is an honor. When you look at his career and his accomplishments, he’s undeniably contributed to our music culture,” said Brenda Cline, general manager and director of A&R for Luna Chica Records. “The early response to his record is very exciting and it gives me personal gratification for this label to have the opportunity to deliver it to music fans worldwide.”
High Steppin’ is Marty Grebb’s “homage to the American Blues and R&B music” that made an impact on his music as he grew up in Chicago, where Chess Records and other Blues labels thrived at the time. It demonstrates the best of Grebb’s musical and vocal style that incorporates influences of Big City Blues, Delta and Combo Styles Blues, along with a mix of New Orleans music that he was exposed to along the way. Grebb not only produced the project and wrote most of the songs on High Steppin’, he also played all the instruments on the album.
High Steppin’ is now available for download exclusively at www.LunaChicaRecords.com and will soon be available on CD.
